It may seem like Jennifer Lawrence's Best Actress win at the Academy Awards — and her equally memorable tumble on the stairs — was ages ago, but the film that got her there, David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," is finally coming to Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday.
In anticipation of the movie's home-video release, MTV News has been given a very special exclusive from the disc's deleted scenes. The collection of outtakes that didn't make the final cut of "Silver Linings Playbook" includes an alternate ending, which you can watch in the video below. (Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the movie yet, but what are you waiting for?)
The scene is essentially a much longer version of the theatrical cut's final sequence. As you'll recall, after Tiffany and Pat win the dance competition in their own way — they score a 5 — they finally realize that they're meant for each other and spend another game day watching the Eagles at the Solitanos.
The alternate version of that scene spends a lot more time with the people in the house on that day, including Ricky, played by Matthew Russell, the director's son, who served as the inspiration for the story. After serving as an annoyance to Pat throughout the movie, Ricky comes to him for advice in the alternate ending.
You'll also get to see more of Lawrence's Oscar-winning performance. When it's revealed that Ricky is wearing a Vikings shirt, Pat Sr. and Tiffany show no patience for the colors of a rival team and promptly throw him out.
The alternate cut would have ended the film on a slightly different tone, but the spirit is maintained while taking a closer look at how the characters settled back into their lives after the main events of the story.
"Silver Linings Playbook" is available for digital download and will hit Blu-ray and DVD on April 30.
